Disturbing Infant homecare facts and forecasts
Every year, tens of thousands of infants die suddenly and unexpectedly. Researchers call these deaths SIDS - Sudden Infant Death Syndrome, unexplained death of an infant between the ages of 1 month and 1-year-old that doesn’t have a known cause, even after a thorough case investigation, including performance of a full autopsy with ancillary testing, investigation of the site of death, and review of the clinical history.
Most babies who die of SIDS are between 2 and 4 months old, and 90% are younger than 6 months old. Most of these babies appear to have died during their sleep, usually between the hours of midnight and 6 a.m.
Globally, it's estimated that around 20,000 babies die from sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) each year.
Although one-half of all cases are SIDS, Sudden Infant Death Syndrome isn’t the cause of every sudden infant death. There are also cases that include those with a clear cause, such as accidental suffocation and strangulation in bed.
In 2022, there were about 3,700 sudden unexpected infant deaths in the United States. It is estimated that around 2,820 infants died from SIDS in the EU in 2019.

AI IN INFANT CARE
SIDS Problem
Families with infants are particularly aware of the risks associated with sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) which takes many lives annually.
SIDS Risk Prevention
AI-based baby monitoring systems can detect scenes such as face covering or lack of breathing and alert parents in real-time. These systems provide peace of mind by continuously monitoring infants’ vital signs and sleep patterns, thereby reducing the risk of SIDS and ensuring the well-being of the baby.
